Driving to San Carlos
U.S. car insurance does not extend to foreign countries, so you will
need to purchase Mexican Insurance.
From Phoenix:
Take I-10 south to Tucson then I-19 south to Nogales. As you enter
Nogales take Exit 4 which is Mariposa Rd. Turn right at the light, wind
through the hills and cross into Mexico. You will then take the "new"
four lane expressway for about 7 miles until you reach the toll
station; fee is $1.50. Continue south for 3 miles until you reach the
21 kilometer station where you will park and go into the office. This
office will require the following:

THE 21 KILOMETER "ONLY SONORA" POINT IS A TOURIST CARD!
EVERYONE IN YOUR GROUP MUST HAVE A PASSPORT IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A
TOURIST VISA.
TRAVELING WITH PETS - You will need to bring proof
of your pets shot records.
TOLL BOOTHS - There are three toll booths en-route
at Nogales, Magdalena, and Hermosillo. The tolls varies between $2 - $6
at each booth.
